Water compromises about 75% of the earth's surface. It plays an extremely significant role in people's every day lives.

Some uses of water are that:

We drink it, enjoy it for recreation, and use it as part of a main process.

Water is a main source in the ecosystem and in many industrial processes.

How is water related to Chemistry?

Chemists study the impact of water on other elements in the systems.

Water chemists also contribute to the design and implementation of processes and policies to manage these effects.

They also study how elements affect the quality of water.

Iron causes an extremely unpleasant taste in drinking water so therefore chemists go through the steps of purifying the water to get rid of the iron taste.

Ways to sterilize water:

Boiling is the best way to purify the water and kill all microorganisms.

Filtering the water is important because it gets rid of many microorganisms that causes certain illnesses.

Treat it with chemicals such as Iodine.

Working Conditions for a Water Chemist:

Most positions include fieldwork but most of the industrial water chemists spend their time in the lab.

To work in an industry most chemists have to be flexible with traveling overseas.

Most work hours vary from either nine to five, night hours or if their working on a certain project then weekends too.

Salary Range:

Starting salaries for an experienced and an inexperienced BS chemist is $24,400.

Industry chemists with a BS range about $23,000.

Inexperienced doctorate chemists in government start around $36,000 per year range, while industry pays a bit more in the mid $40,000 per year range.
