On March 4,1776 American troops began in Boston building two redoubts which made the British and Garrison unite. On March 17th the British Fleet with 1100 effective men and 1000 refugees were taken down to Nantasket roads and then Boston became free. At this place the helpers of this were General Henry Knox who was the leader of the Americans brought the cannon from Fort Ticonderoga to deliver to General Washington in 1775-76 were used to force British Army to evacuate Boston erected by the common wealth of Massachusettes of 1927.

The erection of these heights was authorized by the City Council of Boston. On March 17th the Americans and the British fought for freedom ,the Americans won the battle and the British were evacuated for this reason we have Evacuation Day . The Americans blazed a freedom trail and argued about taxes and other things . They had meetings every day arguing that they have no right to pay taxes so they argued this with the British by having a war. Dorchester Heights was made into a park and known all around Boston .Many people think that the reason the City of Boston is closed on March 17th off is because of St Patrick's Day when it is really because of Evacuation Day and how we fought for our freedom and rights .
