On May 10, 1773 the parliament passed a law which would enable the East India Tea Company to sell there tea to the American Colonists without having to pay the usual duties and tariffs. This law was created to save the East India Tea Company from bankruptcy. The Parliaments actions enable the East India Tea Company to undersell any other available tea in the colonies.

On December 16, 1773 5,000 colonists gathered at the Old South Meeting House to debate the tax on tea. The people could not come to a compromise. Due to the results of the meeting Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty, which consists of thirty to sixty men, disguised as Indians boarded on 3 East India Tea Company's ship. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.

The British soldiers later destroyed the Old South Meeting House in retaliation of the the Boston Tea Party. They turned the Old South Meeting House into a riding school. The British soldiers tore out the pews and pulpits and used them for firewood. They also put a bar in the upper gallery.
