The Old South Meeting
House

After the Revolution, the Old South Meeting House was restored and it
remained a church until the year of 1872. In 1877, five years later, a
group of activists saved the Old South Meeting House from being destroyed.
After the activists had saved this historic site, it soon became a museum.
The amazing abolitionist, Wendell Phillips, did his very best to sway
people into giving donations of money to try and help restore and save
this landmark. Wendell Phillips was very successful. This event was the
first time that a public building was saved because of its "association
with nationally historical events." Some of the historical events
that began at the Old South Meeting House are: The Boston Massacre and
The Boston Tea Party.
The Old South Meeting House, not only symbolizes our country's freedom
but also its justice. This wonderful historic site is a great inspiration
to not only thousands of children, but also many parents, teachers, visitors
and citizens. Today, the Old South Meeting House is used for both celebration
and discussion.
In the early twentieth century, the Old South Meeting House
was where public debate took place. Arguable speakers spoke there because
they were denied elsewhere. Since the proclamations of the colonial era
250 years ago, The Old South Meeting House has been used as a community
meeting house.
