This page will discuss how the Old South Meeting House was used with the Boston massacre. There are many key points on this web page that you will need to know so read carefully and enjoy thank you. Tension road high between the British and the colonist and it all exploded at the Boston massacre. On Monday, March 5,1770 a young wigmaker's apprentice kept bothering a officer about an unpaid barber bill, even though the bill was paid and the officer had a receipt. An officer butted the taunting kid with his musket. A crowd soon began to gather and the situation grew tense. After a short while the crowd grew rowdy when some more soldiers arrived. Church bells began ringing then some one no one knows who yelled fire. At that time the British fired there guns and five men eventually died from the shots, among them was an African - American slave named Crispus Attucks he was only 17. The colonist were outraged and wanted an action to be taken. A crowd of more than several thousand people led by Samuel Adams gathered at the Old South Meeting house to protest the British troops in town. After that from the years 1771 to 1775, large meetings were held at the Old South to remember the Boston Massacre, they had rousing speeches spoken by John Hancock and Dr. Joseph Warren. The Old South was an important place to meet to discuss events. The British were camping in the Fanual Hall. The British were taking over the city. Later you will find out how they took over the Old South Meeting house and ruined it completely. They stripped the floors and put dirt down and used it as a riding place to practice there jumping. There are many more situations involving the Old South Meeting House but you must go back to the web page and look up the other info you need.
