PUBLICATIONSThe literary magazine, The What-Not, is designed to develop aesthetic awareness through creative expression. Students in all grades and faculty members are welcome to submit art and writing for the magazine; the final product seeks to represent the entire Mount Alvernia community. Student staff members review all submissions, design the magazine, and prepare the layout.
The Looking Glass is the student newspaper. Student staff members develop their skills in writing, communication, and teamwork, and editors gain experience in leadership and in editing, design, and layout. Student editors, from grades 9 through 12, are entirely responsible for setting and meeting production goals. Student editors become proficient in the use of state-of-the art technology (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop) to produce the newspaper.
Yearbook staff members provide a valuable, permanent record of each year. They develop skills in writing, editing, design, and teamwork, and they gain real-world experience in publication production using state of the art technology. The yearbook is created with Adobe InDesign.
Photography Club members use traditional and digital technology to produce a photographic record of every Mount Alvernia event as well as day-to-day activities. Student photographers learn to prepare their own photos for publication in The Looking Glass, in the yearbook, and on the Mount Alvernia Web page. Photo club also works with the advanced technology class in the Video Studio to produce videos for special school events like the Varsity Sports Night, Sports Appreciation Night, the Prom Fashion Show, Homecoming and World Awareness Day.
