STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Student Council Executive Board

All students are members of the Mount Alvernia Student Council. The Student Council exists to provide a means of establishing a closer unity between the students and the faculty and provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of students' concerns and interests. The Executive Board of the Student Council is composed of elected representatives: president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Students elect a president, vice-president, and representative of each class to serve as additional members of the Student Council. The president of the National Honor Society is an ex officio member of the Student Council.

Class Officers

Each class elects three class officers: president, vice-president, and representative. These students are elected to act as spokeswomen for the class and to organize and preside at class meetings and to serve on the Executive Board of the Student Council.

Retreat Leaders/Liturgy Team/Youth Ministry Coordinators

Students in grades 11 and 12 work under the supervision of the Campus Minister to plan and run retreats for students in grades 7, 8, and 9.

The Liturgy Team is made up of students in grades 10, 11, and 12. They meet with the Campus Minister once per six day cycle during their lunch period to plan creative and meaningful liturgies for the school community.

Ten to fifteen junior and senior students serve as Youth Ministry Coordinators each year for particular areas of Campus Ministry (retreats, lectors, etc.). These students meet every other week with the Campus Minister to perform various tasks, brainstorm about upcoming events, debrief about recent events, prepare materials for a retreat or liturgy and explore faith and/or leadership skills. Coordinators may also lead prayer and other activities during meetings with other students, such as a retreat leader meeting.

National Honor Society

A student is invited to join the National Honor Society provided she has satisfactorily met all criteria for acceptance. A student does not apply for membership. As determined by the criteria established by the National Honor Society, students who maintain a yearly grade-point average of 87% or higher in the freshman year, sophomore year, and the first semester of the junior year are potential candidates. Each student must also fulfill the requirements for the standards of character, leadership, and service.
